Why does Audiograbber lock up without a CD in a drive?

0 votes
Audiograbber rips CDs great! However, if I open Audiograbber without a CD in a drive, and then go to the options to select the path for ripped files and press the Open button, Audiograbber completely locks the computer. Powerdown is the only way to recover (no CTL-ALT-DEL or any other process killer will work). 100% repeatable. Tried re-install, re-boot, etc, etc. Tried disabling exraneous shell extensions, antivirus, all the usual things. All other menu options work fine. If I never hit the Open button to change path, everything else I tried seems to work fine.

Windows XP SP3, all updates, latest Adaptec ASPI, dual-core CPU.

Strange, I don't have this problem (WinXP, SP2). Anyone else has?

I found a solution to my question. It looks like several CD rippers and diagnostics are not fully compatible with certain versions of Intel's (ICH8 chipset in my case) RAID drivers (Matrix Storage Manager it's called). Raid drivers v7.xxx and v8.xx were a problem for me.  Whether the problem is with the CD-related apps or with the RAID drivers could be argued forever. Audiograbber is an excellent enough app that I was determined to make it work. After about a day worth of experimenting with drivers, I found that it works well with the newest Intel drivers (now called Intel Rapid Storage Technology) ver 9.6.0.1014 . Hope this helps someone else.
